Dickerson Center for Civic Responsibility and African American Museum

We Are Searching for Volunteers!

Dickerson Center for Civic Responsibility www.dickersonciviccenter.org is a 501(c)(3) in the Dallas area.

Our mission is to train young people to impact their world through volunteer service.

Volunteering gives students hands-on experiences in the real world, fostering a commitment to lifelong service and learning.

Student, immerse yourself in the African American Museum’s www.aamdallas.org upcoming exhibit: Slavery at Jefferson’s Monticello. You will delve into the history of America’s third President and one slave family in particular. You’ll welcome visitors and share information about the exhibit. But you will take away much more. You will learn valuable life skills:

• Gain volunteer experience to prepare you for your first or next job.

• Develop the art of working with others: supervisors, team members, and the general public.

• Strengthen your research abilities.

• Receive direct mentoring from experienced volunteer and museum professionals.

Upon successful completion of one day of training, you will be eligible to serve as a Youth Ambassador volunteer for the
African American Museum.

Time Commitment: Minimum 42 hrs. (6 hours training, 36 hours volunteer service)

Part One: Mandatory Training: Saturday, September 15, 2018 at AA Museum, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Part Two: Weekly Saturday volunteer shifts: 3-5 hours/week

Schedule: Saturdays, commencing Saturday, September 22 and concluding December 29, 2018.
